Manurewa Marae

On Wednesday 22 of March the Rangi team (Y6s) got to go to the Manurewa Marae. As visitors for half of the day.

When we got there the sun was shining but it was still freezing cold. as we waited outside everyone was excited to explore the Marae. Heaps of kids had not been to a Marae before like me.

When the gates of the Marae opened everyone couldn’t wait. We were greeted  Matua Te-kou and he told us how things were going to work. Then not too long after we all heard a lady start calling. I wondered what it was so I tried pushing up front to see but everyone was slow walking so I wasn’t able to see everyone behind me was still trying to push up.

When we were inside it was warm because there were some heaters. When we sat down some kids sat on chairs. When things got sorted out an old man blessed our day with a karakia then they started to sing He Honore. We joined in and I could tell they were a bit surprised. When we finished the waiata Papa reg did a speech in Te Reo Maori. After his speech he placed down an envelope and we all sang Nga whakamoimiti. After the waiata, Matua Te-Kou said “let the kids be kids”. When we got up a couple boys ran straight outside and I laughed because I figured they were not listening. When Matua said “stay inside”. I ran around for a little but then Matua shouted out to go around to the pou and remember their names.

When we sat Matua Te-Kou said that it was eating time so we got our bags but he took us somewhere else and we sat and ate it was connected to the wharaenui. While eating Matua Te-kou  started talking about the History of the marae.

A day full of water

On Friday the 3rd of March it was water funs day. A day filled with water activities and the whole school got to participate.

On Friday was a day most of the school was looking forward to.At the beginning of the day we did karakia and we finished Karakia than we then got into our House colours (rangi only) Te Uru,Tonga,Raki and Te Whiti. By the time we all got into our houses we started to practice our house chants for That day. Every class = each team. Room 20 = Te whiti room 19= te tonga

and room 18= te uru finally room 17 = te raki as soon as we finished practising our chants we changed and got ready for the day. We sat in our teams out side and each shared our chants. than headed to the pool area while saying our chants

When we got to the pool we sat in our house colours but + Maunga (year 5s) we all kept singing our chants till the races started. When they did start the swimming races everyone started cheering for their friends the first races each team raced each other everyone was still cheering for their friends.

When the finals began 4 or 5 swimmers from each team would race each other.Everyone cheering for their houses Luckily Te uru (the best house) won 2 finals. After the races we started relays. Oh though I never got a chance to watch The did get to see the  teachers throwp0[ rings in the pool for people who are still getting confident in the water. Then when the rings gathered everyone not teachers though hoped in the pool and took a group photo (it was actually half of the school really)

Water fun day was really fun.  and i hope that we get to do it again
